Jesiel’s Story: A Second Chance to Move Forward

For Jesiel Benitez Alcántar, the journey toward a better future took an unexpected turn.

At just 19 years old, Jesiel left Honduras hoping to reach the United States. While attempting to board a moving freight train in Sonora, Mexico, he slipped and lost his leg in a devastating accident. What began as a search for opportunity suddenly became a fight to regain his mobility.

Jesiel is fitted with a custom prosthetic leg by the ARSOBO team.

After the accident, Jesiel found support at ARSOBO, where the team designed and fitted him with a custom prosthetic leg. More than providing a medical device, ARSOBO gave him the opportunity to stand, walk, and begin rebuilding his independence.

Jesiel's story is one of many that reflects ARSOBO's mission. Every year, individuals who have experienced trauma, illness, or disability come to ARSOBO seeking more than mobility—they seek dignity, opportunity, and hope. Through customized prosthetics, wheelchairs, hearing care, and rehabilitation services, ARSOBO helps people take the next step toward a more independent future.

Every prosthetic tells a story. Every step forward begins with hope.
